Then when considering all the above ingredients the building process needs to reflect the extra care and attention to detail that's been implemented in the design process. Taylor builders will exceed all the expectations of design and construction and provide a product that will be on time and on budget… and that's their promise to you.
As the next stage of expansion for the school, we were engaged to construct, a new science block (N Block) to link with the existing O Block, enclose under an existing building (K Block), a new training area (R Block), a new hospitality and arts facility (P Block) and a new Administration building and front entry area.
Due to the intricate curves in the roof structure of P Block there were a number of construction challenges with the installation of the steel purlins, blockwork and roofing.
The project was a staged completion so that the school could continue operation and expand into the buildings as completed.
The new administration area, included the principal’s office, staff offices, meeting room, toilets, kitchenette and front reception.
The hospitality and arts (P Block), has a full commercial training kitchen, coldroom and freezer room at one end, with music and visual arts training areas at the other end of the building, including outdoor undercover space.
The other buildings contained additional classrooms and science rooms with all the associated audio visual, and fixtures required for such teaching applications.
The front entry statement has enhanced the entry to the school and added to the overall ambience of the school.
The project for the Department of Housing, was to document and construct apartments to accommodate residents with varying degrees of mobility. The units were distributed between 4 buildings, consisting of 2 single storey and 2 double storey. The contract was over a 52 week period to complete all the documentation and construction works. The documentation included the selection of colours, fixtures and fittings and landscaping, based on the standard requirements for Department of Housing projects.
The ground floor units have been constructed to suit restricted mobility tenants with full PWD bathrooms and larger circulation space. The kitchens have removable cabinetry under the sinks and cooktops and side opening oven doors for ease of operation.
The units have easy care vinyl floor coverings, with ceramic tiles to the bathroom. There are indoor laundries to each unit with concertina doors to close them off from the living areas. The single bedroom has a large built in robe with shelving, and there is a separate utility area that can be used as a study/hobby area near the living space.
Undercover parking is provided at the rear of the unit complex with a parking space for each unit and a bicycle rack to accommodate 5 bikes. There is also a fenced undercover bin enclosure with a washdown area. A garden shed is provided for each of the ground floor units. Each ground floor unit has it’s own fully fenced and turfed yard. Plant selection for the complex has been for low maintenance and drought tolerance.
For their new Medical Centre in North Ward the Directors wanted to duplicate the ambience and calmness of the existing surgery located in a large 2 story Queenslander.
A single story building was required to facilitate disabled access. A very precise specification was provided by the clients which then had to be interpreted into a design that would meet the clients and Town Planning requirements. In discussion with the clients it was decided to endeavor to achieve a more “Beachy” feel to the building in keeping with the Nautilus name.
The design evolved into a single story building with a verandah to the northern side leading to a high raked ceiling entry with Stone clad walls. This leads into a large reception/waiting room area also with raised ceilings.
The reception counter design reflects the shape of the Nautilus shell, using the Fibonacci curve mathematic principal.
To each side of the reception area are 4 consulting rooms, laundry, kitchen a “quiet” room which is used for meditation and yoga. The treatment room located behind reception allows easy access for the medical practitioners, staff and patients.
The cabinetry was designed specifically for each area to meet very stringent requirements. State of the art computer systems, general and feature lighting, solar power and air-conditioning system together with insulated walls and ceilings means that this building is super-efficient and extremely eco-friendly.
The overall effect of simple Off White colour with accents, including wallpaper feature walls to consultant’s rooms, has achieved the ambience and calmness the clients required.
All site works, civil works and complex stormwater retention system plus front and rear carparking and staff outdoor area were completed by Taylor Builders.
